WAITING FOR GODOT & CAESAR ON THE BEACH 1992

The last year of the Project saw another brace of productions. One was an intimate staging of Waiting for Godot created in Deal library but spilling out for one evening onto the beach where Pericles had arrived three years before. The other was entirely on the beach – a reworking of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar as Caesar on the Beach.

ENVOI

After five summers in Deal, the Project came to an end. The professional team were all now involved in other commitments and the mantle of community productions was being taken up by others. Many of the young people who had been cast had found a taste for theatre and gone on to become professionals themselves. Some of the core team formed a professional touring company that went around the world with productions of Shakespeare that, though small in scale, had hallmarks of the Deal events. They were known as Theatre Nomad. Their productions came to Deal over the following years and were even seen in the Astor Theatre and Deal and Walmer Castles.
